Remedial or Enrichment Tutoring is provided by a certified BC teacher in addition to qualifications for special education. - If student is gifted, a teacher with experience and qualifications in the field is able to provide enrichment. Cost $45/per hour in your home. A minimum of 8 sessions is required and payable in advance. Remedial Reading combines a whole language and phonics approach. It is based on the use of good literature at your child's instructional level. Lesson plans are geared towards learning to read, reading for comprehension, and improving writing skills. in addition, I have extensive training in the Webster's Writing method, which emphasizes extending writing from text, improving structure and style to writing.

Student support for study and organization skills, support for attention, includes the following; Homework completion and organization of upcoming projects, essays, test preparation. This is done twice a week. It includes parent collaboration at the beginning and end of each session with behaviour goals and feedback for both home and school. Cost is $45/per hour in your home. A minimum of 8 weeks is required and payable in advance. For students 10 -15, additional follow up may be provided through phone conversations or the internet.

Child Support; Learning Disabilities explained A 2 hour information session is provided to a parent and child aged 8 or older who is diagnosed with a learning disability. This includes listening to a tape on learning disabilities and sharing of a book or an article on learning differences- The goal is for the child improve his or her self-esteem and confidence by discussing what it means to learn differently, what to expect from self and others and how to advocate with teachers to get appropriate support for the disability. A review of the psycho-educational test in plain language so the child understands his strengths and weaknesses, and ways to improve his skills will be included. Cost is $150.00 and includes a pre-planning session with the parent.
Testing for Learning Disability or Giftedness:
If the child has not been diagnosed but there are signs for a learning disability, an achievement test on reading, writing and math can be administered. If a parent believes the child is gifted, a well known test the CogAT can be administered. It measures cognitive abilities and learning styles.
Cost $150-$200 includes a written report to the parent and discussion. Please be aware that tests provided here may not necessarily be accepted by a school for program placement or designation. You many want to discuss this further with the child's school. The testing we have training for is called level B, which is not the same as that provided by a psychometrician. This is reflected in the cost that is charged which is about one tenth of the cost of a level A test. Our testing may not be covered under extended or provincial health plans.
